Alaska Fishing: Peak Salmon Runs and Fishing on Lake Creek

Lake Creek receives strong runs of 5 Alaska salmon species each summer. When you visit our lodge determines what species of fish will be available. King salmon enter our river system by the first of June each year. King salmon fishing peaks typically between the 8th of June and the 5th of July. The legal king salmon fishing season closes on July 13. Sockeye Salmon are the next species to enter our river system, typically arriving near the end of the king run. Mid July sees the strongest push of fresh sockeyes into Lake Creek as the run tapers off as August approaches. Pink salmon arrive mid-July each year with earlier runs of larger numbers of fish on even-numbered years. Typically by July 20th, pink salmon fishing peaks and runs strong through the 3rd week in August. Silver and Chum salmon are the last salmon species to run in Lake Creek. Both silvers and chums arrive in abundance by the end of the 3rd week in July and provide excellent fishing through the 25th of August.
Lake Creek is a very healthy native rainbow trout fishery. Large numbers of rainbows can be found throughout the season, although early to mid June, late July and August offer the very best trout fishing. Arctic Grayling prefer colder water conditions, so near the lodge the best grayling fishing occurs in early to mid June and then again from mid August onward. Float trips provide excellent trout and grayling fishing during the late June - late July timeframe. A nearby chain of lakes accessible by boat, offers excellent northern pike fishing throughout the summer. This is an excellent side trip for those in seek of a change of scenery and an interest in pursuing very different fishery.
